Solar Compatible EV Chargers

With summers getting hotter and bills getting higher, now is a good time to consider using solar energy to power your home or business. There is a common misconception that solar only works on sunny days but whilst a sunnier day will generate more power, solar panels will create electricity during all daylight hours whatever the weather.

There are many benefits to installing solar PV at your domestic or commercial property.  By generating your own power through solar, you can save around £400 per year on your energy bills and if you generate more than you use, you can even earn money by selling it back to the grid. Renewable energy like solar helps to reduce air pollution thus helping to combat climate change.  Plus if you have an electric or hybrid vehicle, you can use the energy generated by solar panels to charge your car at home using a solar compatible EV charge point.

  • Solar panels could reduce your monthly energy bills by around 50%
  • VAT on solar has been cut to 0% for the next five years
  • The cost of solar has come down considerably

Myenergi zappi

Zappi is a smart EV charger with a difference.  It has 3 charging modes which makes it a great choice for all homeowners. Those with grid-tied micro-generation systems like wind or solar can use the eco settings allowing users to save on energy bills. The charging current is automatically and continually adjusted in response to on-site generation and household power consumption.

No PV? No Problem! If you don’t have a PV system, zappi can still operate like an ordinary EV charging station importing from the grid. You can always add your solar/wind system later.

Hypervolt

Hypervolt’s stylish design and smart home integration makes it a popular choice for EV drivers and with no other add-ons required, it is a great choice for properties with or without solar PV.

Available in black, white or grey and with lead lengths of 5m, 7.5m or 10m, these units are also versatile to suit your needs.

HYDRA CUBUS

Sleek and compact, the Hydra Cubus has been designed specifically for the UK EV home and commercial charging markets making it a great choice for EV drivers.

Available as 7.4kW or 22kW and tethered or untethered, the Hydra Cubus is ideal for anyone wanting to future proof since it has dynamic load balancing and solar PV compatibility so it is able to communicate with and prioritise power from Solar PV and battery storage system.  When installed on a larger commercial scale, the Hydra Cloud Monitoring and management facility gives the real-time status of each individual charger.

general FAQ's
I am considering solar panels, what happens on cloudy days?

There is a common misconception that solar only works on sunny days but whilst a sunnier day will generate more power, solar panels will create electricity during all daylight hours whatever the weather. A home battery storage system allows you to store electricity for use later. By adding battery storage to your solar PV system, this energy can be used when the sun is no longer shining, rather than buying energy from the grid.

I have solar panels, is there a particular charge point I can have?

There are many solar compatible chargers on the market. Some have full solar integration such as the Zappi and Hypervolt whereby you can chare your EV entirely from the sun, others have a solar clamp which will detect solar and alter the charge to the vehicle accordingly.
